Primus Invests in Community Education Centers, Inc.
6/29/2007
ROSELAND, NJ — Primus Capital Fund V (“PCF V”) has joined LLR Partners Inc. (“LLR”) in the completion of a $53 million equity investment in Community Education Centers, Inc. (“CEC”) as part of a recapitalization financing. Based in Roseland, New Jersey, CEC is one of the largest providers of treatment, education and reentry services for the adult correctional population. This investment enabled CEC to acquire CiviGenics, Inc., a Marlborough, Massachusetts based correctional services company providing offender treatment and jail management services, and provides capital for the combined company’s expansion plans. CEC’s acquisition of CiviGenics creates the largest offender reentry services company in the United States.
CEC offers secure, standardized solutions to government agencies beset with overcrowded public facilities and burgeoning prison populations. The Company differentiates itself with proprietary treatment and education programs that help individuals successfully reenter society with the necessary life skills to remain out of prison. CEC serves various government entities including State Departments of Corrections, counties, parole boards, drug courts, community correction boards and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The Company has a staff of more than 3,500, annual revenues in excess of $200 million, and operates 97 facilities in 22 states. CEC will continue to be headquartered in New Jersey and will have an estimated 20,000 individuals in its daily care.
John Clancy, President and CEO of CEC, said, “We are excited to partner with LLR and Primus as CEC enters its next phase of growth. Their expertise and experience in working with growth businesses will be invaluable as we integrate the CiviGenics acquisition and grow the combined company.”
Keith Kerman will represent PCF V on CEC’s board of directors.
